Hi there,
This week are still in "review-mode."
Monday-ARMT Review-Fractions, equivalent, ratios, and rates
Tuesday-Area, perimeter, irregular shapes, 3-D objects
Wed-Probability as fractions, decimals, and percents
Thurs-Converting customary and metric units
Fri-Convert decimals, fractions, percents, finding percents of numbers and taxes
On the Mammoth Cave front, students need to bring their money in this week. The trip is ON!! I have actually been able to find more money and believe I can set up two free tours when we get to Mammoth Caves; one on Tuesday afternoon and one on Wed morning. On Monday of next week, you will find a folder in the office that lists all the available cabins. You need to select a cabin sign in and write the names of all students that will be in your group.
Additionally, I still have students who need chaperones, please look at the attachment and sign up for the unclaimed students.
Thanks and have a great week.
Diane Prothro, Ed.D.

Check my calendar for the practice times and place. Every time we are NOT practicing at Lagoon Park, it will be at Ida Bell Young Park on Vaughn Rd. We are not guaranteed a court at Ida Bell, it will be a first come first serve basis, but we can still exercise and work on skills. All practice times will be from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. The match times will begin at 4:00 pm, which means you will need to be at the courts by no later than 3:40. This means you may have to check out at 3:15 to make sure you get to the games on time.

Hi again,
The students didn't finish the test today, so they will continue taking it tomorrow. I reviewed all concepts covered on the test with them before the test and gave an example of each on the board. However, tonight would be a good opportunity for you to review the GCF and LCM with them again. Look for word problems in their textbook, specifically page 153, problems 17, 18, 28 for Greatest Common Factor. Look on page 196, problems 1 and 14 for word problems using Least Common Multiple.
Thanks

Hi again,
Just wanted to remind you of the test tomorrow on Chapter 2, sections 1,2,4,5,6,7,8. Students will use the study guide in the textbook on pages 84, 85, and 86 problems 1-53 odd. Skip number 47, this word problem involves a fraction and is not appropriate yet for them to work. I showed it in class, but it will not be on the test tomorrow.
Thanks

Hi Parents,
I just wanted to remind you that there will be a test on Wed. It will cover sections 2,3, & 4 from chapter 1.
Also, I will be out this Thurs and Friday. My son is graduating from the Marine corp boot camp and I will be in Parris Island. The students will be with Mrs. Cox, a wonderful substitute, and they will be reviewing adding and subtracting whole numbers. There will be two daily grades associated with this, so make sure they turn in their work each day.
Thanks and have a great week.
P.S. I will hold tutoring this Wed am but will not have my dedicated tutoring Thursday.

Hi Parents,
I hope your week has been as good as mine. I think this year is going to be great, can't wait to get to know all of the kids.
I have just entered all of my students into the Holt McDougal online/interactive textbook. I will be giving them their usernames and passwords today. Once you have their information, log onto http://my.hrw.com (no www) type in their username and password and click register, once you have accepted the terms and policy notice, you should be able to access the textbook. I'd like for you to sit with your child this weekend and try out Lesson 1 from chapter 1. I have skipped this lesson due to the Common Core Standards but feel the kids would really benefit from reviewing this section. Also, spend some time exploring this website, this is a new textbook and publisher to me and I would love to have your input.
Thanks and have a great weekend.

Students need to hang on to their horsepower sheets. We will go to the computer lab on Thursday and Friday of next week (Jan 13th and 14th) to create an excel spreadsheet similar to their worksheet from last week. Also, they need to bring a flash or jump drive to be able to save their work. Students will not be able to save their work on the computer lab computers. We will also, if time permits, take another StarMath test. We will be completing these type of tests at least one to two times per nine week period. After each student has taken the test (twice) with me in the computer lab, they "should" be able to access StarMath from home to continue taking the lessons.
